After debuting the track last month, Kimbra premieres the official music video for “90’s Music“! The track serves as the lead single off her upcoming sophomore album The Golden Echo, which is scheduled for release in August via Warner Bros. Records. Directed by Justin Francis, the clip sees the 24-year-old songstress rocking various colorful outfits as she parades around trippy backdrops with some fierce dancers. Easily one of the coolest videos I’ve seen in a long time, I’m even more into the song than I was before. “90s Music embraces so many things I like to explore musically,” Kimbra recently expressed. “I am always attracted to the meeting place of light and dark, sweet and sour – the juxtaposition of angular sounds and head-crushing distorted elements sitting alongside a breathy bubblegum vocal. Instead of making the track a throwback musically, I wanted it to feel like a nod to the past from a futurist perspective. It talks about sharing music as a kid and falling in love to a soundtrack of TLC, Mariah, Nirvana, and Michael Jackson, then slowly growing up and away from that period of time. The music and the memories live on. Nostalgia is a common theme for me.”
