Over a year ago, it was announced that American Idol season 6 beatboxer Blake Lewis had been preparing the release of his third studio album via Republic Records. The anticipated record titled Portrait of a Chameleon, which was originally scheduled for release in the Spring of 2013, was ultimately delayed and Blake decided to work on the project independently through his label, Audio Day Dream Records. Funded by fans on PledgeMusic, the album has now been officially released and those who pre-ordered through the crowdfunding website have already been enjoying the stellar effort since April 29. As to be expected from Blake, Portrait of a Chameleon is a fantastic, continuous experience that perfectly blends his pop sensibilities with a modern electronic sound and his effortless human beat-box skills. There’s a little something for everyone, like the radio-ready electric stomper “Back To Life“, harder hitting, dark grinder “Survivor“, smooth slow burner “I Want You” with Samantha James, and the ’80′s-inspired dance gem “Disco In Space“: “It’s eleven songs of pure magic,” Blake said in a statement. “I’ve been working on this album for over a year and I couldn’t be any happier with how it sounds.” The feeling is mutual!
