After what feels like forever since the release of her fantastic 2010 album Flesh Tone, Kelis has finally announced that she will release her sixth album, titled Food, on April 28 after signing a new worldwide deal with independent label Ninja Tune. It’s the first album that will not be released on a major label for the 34-year-old singer. “I’m really happy to be partnering with Ninja Tune on my new record,” Kelis said in the press release. “This is the album I’ve wanted to make for a long time and I want the team around me to be as excited and energetic about it as I am. I’m also very happy to be working with some of the most creative people in the industry.” Entirely produced by Dave Sitek from TV On The Radio, Food is being billed as a “soul record that’s as raw and alternative as it is classic.” The lead single is titled “Rumble” and should be premiering at the top of next year – I can’t wait!
