Check out the premiere of Snoon Lion‘s latest video for “Ashtrays and Heartbreaks” featuring Miley Cyrus! The song, produced by Major Lazer and Ariel Rechtshaid, serves as the latest single off Snoop’s new album Reincarnated, which is available in stores now. Directed by PR Brown, the clip sees Snoop blow smoke as he reflects on the heartbreaking memories of others. I almost passed out from boredom watching this but at least Miley looks good. We are only days away from getting her new single “We Can’t Stop” on Monday (June 3) – get hyped!

Video??? The video is not the problem here. I’m sorry to say this but Miley Cyrus voice is the problem. Her voice did not showcase any type of feeling, like it should, for an emotional song like this. And she ruined the lyrics for me. All I hear is her nasal slash whiney sounding voice–overpowering the whole song. Snoop Lion could have had a way better song, if he sang this all on his own.
Am I the only one who thinks this is a fantastic song? Maybe it’s because it so perfectly fits my mood right now, but everything just seems to work. Love it.
And regarding the video: I think it fits the mood of the song nicely (except too much smiling from Miley). Think of all the many horrible rap videos there have been in the past, and this video is leaps and bounds beyond those, reaching for something more, yet capturing the essence of the urban sadness that Snoop represents. Again, maybe it’s because I’m in the right place to hear it, but it all works. Very nicely done.
