Okay, so usually every morning I have one hell of a gay jam session in my room. During this mornings session, I realized that I haven’t worked up another What I’m Listening To post in forever and you all should be listening to the same music I’m jamming to right now. Volume 3 of my brilliant (not so brilliant) feature was the only one I did last year so I’ve totally been slacking. Luckily for you, I’ve been feeling really inspired and found time to work up Volume 4 as I just finished yesterday’s leftovers (Pasta, Yum!). I’ve decided to appropriately title Volume 4, “Disco Heaven.” Why? Because it’s the title of one of my favorite Lady Gaga songs and this post is filled with edgy disco anthems and hot deep house cuts that are must-haves for anyone looking to begin their exploration of different dance music. First up sees Hot Creations boss Lee Foss teaming up with house legend MK to offer up a remix to Dillon’s “Thirteen Thirtyfive.” Dillon’s original version lends itself beautifully to a more dance-friendly remake. Lee and MK inject slabs of deeper nu-disco — the enhancements make for a track full of gloomy chord sequences that are both edgy and a bit strange. It takes me somewhere else. LOVE!
This next one is a collaboration between English singer Little Boots, Maya Jane Coles, and James Ford of Simian Mobile Disco. The blogosphere caught wind of the new collaboration a couple weeks ago, and this dream team’s EP — which they are releasing under the moniker LB — is out now via 2020Vision. Needless to say, I’m completely obsessed by the outcome of their freshman effort. On “Whatever Sets You Free“, one of the two original tracks, the production and vocal work tread near perfection and is more inline with Boots‘ earlier work. The song has more of a mellow vibe but it steadily blooms over its seven and a half minute duration. No further explanation needed, if you’re into it, listen to all the takes from the EP here and purchase your copy.

Last but certainly not least is the new single from Mighty Mouse! The London-based DJ producer takes on “The Greatest Man in the Universe” Bobby Womack with his rework of “Love Is Gonna Lift You Up“. The EP includes three versions and a dub but my favorite is the Sunrise Mix, that’s a delicious slice of disco pie. It will completely energize your morning so put on your fancy heels, tighten that weave, and werk.
