Two weeks ago, Singer-songwriter Marina and the Diamonds introduced us to “Electra Heart“; a story about a blonde girl with quite a few emotional issues. After the release of her critically acclaimed debut “The Family Jewels” last year, Marina has been hard at work on the follow-up with some the biggest producers out now like Dr. Luke, Stargate, Swedish House Mafia and more. We got our first taste of Electra‘s story with “Fear & Loathing” and now we have, “Radioactive.” The DJ Chuckie and Stargate-produced track will serve as the albums first single and was premiered yesterday with Fearne Cotton on BBC Radio 1. It is quite a departure from her quirky pop alternative tracks we’re use to but I assure you Marina is not buried another the production. Everything about the lyrical content is still very much Marina and when you combine that with a massive dance/pop production, what you have left is pretty much a flawless pop song. Check out the Casper Balslev-directed video below!
“Electra Heart is the antithesis of everything that I stand for. And the point of introducing her and building a whole concept around her is that she stands for the corrupt side of American ideology, and basically that’s the corruption of yourself,” Marina explained to PopJustice. “My worst fear – that’s anyone’s worst fear – is losing myself and becoming a vacuous person. And that happens a lot when you’re very ambitious.”
“I think there’s always a huge bridge between what is considered credible and what’s pop, and I think for me it was really interesting to try that side, and I’m so glad I did now.”
Marina and The Diamonds will release “Radioactive” on October 3rd in the UK!
