Marina & The Diamonds: ‘Radioactive’ + ‘Electra Heart’ Details

Two weeks ago, Singer-songwriter Marina and the Diamonds introduced us to “Electra Heart“; a story about a blonde girl with quite a few emotional issues. After the release of her critically acclaimed debut “The Family Jewels” last year, Marina has been hard at work on the follow-up with some the biggest producers out now like Dr. Luke, Stargate, Swedish House Mafia and more. We got our first taste of Electra‘s story with “Fear & Loathing” and now we have, “Radioactive.” The DJ Chuckie and Stargate-produced track will serve as the albums first single and was premiered yesterday with Fearne Cotton on BBC Radio 1. It is quite a departure from her quirky pop alternative tracks we’re use to but I assure you Marina is not buried another the production. Everything about the lyrical content is still very much Marina and when you combine that with a massive dance/pop production, what you have left is pretty much a flawless pop song. Check out the Casper Balslev-directed video below!

Electra Heart is the antithesis of everything that I stand for. And the point of introducing her and building a whole concept around her is that she stands for the corrupt side of American ideology, and basically that’s the corruption of yourself,” Marina explained to PopJustice. “My worst fear – that’s anyone’s worst fear – is losing myself and becoming a vacuous person. And that happens a lot when you’re very ambitious.”

“I think there’s always a huge bridge between what is considered credible and what’s pop, and I think for me it was really interesting to try that side, and I’m so glad I did now.”

  1. a Greek Goddess!

  2. I think “Radioactive” should be called “Marina Sells Out”. Everything that made her unique and interesting and fun is absent. This is just another electronic beat that is forgettable. The free spirit of Marina that I grew to love just isn’t in this song.

    1. Are you retarded? Did you just skip past what she was saying? She blatantly said out loud. This record is my “sell out record” Go read the full interview. She wants to do the kind of music she knew she wouldn’t be able to do because people like you would discredit what shes releasing.

      READ THE INTERVIEW.

  3. I LOVE HER!!!!

  4. Love the song! ^_^
Makes me curious about what some of her other work sounds like.
    Thanks for sharing!!! =D
